A truck passes over an ATV access road that connects the B&A trail head to the B&A ATV trail, an old railroad track converted into a recreational trail.
Here are some photos I took at random over the past couple of weeks, both at home and on the road for work. As per usual, a disproportionate number of all the photos I took over that time period were of our dog, Jeannie, but I’ll spare you most of those — except for this one. But that’s the only one on this page. Promise.
Jeannie pauses her morning ritual behind a pile of birch logs, waiting to see if I’ll follow her. Readers of the blog will know that it is required to have a photo of Jeannie on nearly every post that includes any photos at all. This sundial belonged to my maternal grandmother. I remember it sitting by her vegetable garden in the back yard for most of my childhood. When my grandfather passed away in 2021, this was one of the items I took from his home. It’s one of those tokens that always holds a special place in your memory. I never understood how it worked, and still don’t, but have always been fascinated by it.This is the top of the wooden mushroom carved using a chainsaw by my stepfather. Kim torched the top of it to help protect it from the weather and now it has a particularly nice texture.I know I promised no more Jeannie photos on this page, but this one doesn’t really count. Jeanie got her paws a little damp while running the grass one rainy afternoon and left these prints on the front porch. This old tractor sitting beside Route 1 just outside of Van Buren, Maine, appears to have a few bullet holes in the front grill. These are clippings from a lilac bush in our front yard. The bush is quite large these days but started as a single twig from a lilac bush at Kim’s parent’s house many years ago. The vase holding the flowers is cobalt blue — Kim’s favorite color. Here are some clouds of a nice, faded orange hue in the early morning. Kim and I call this the “Fuck You” tree since it looks like it’s giving a thousand middle-fingers at once during this time of the year. And here is the self-portrait of the week.
