Probably the oldest building on the oldest street (Water St) in Caribou, Maine. An old Coca-Cola advertisement, long covered up and now exposed, shows some of the revisions it underwent over the years. I also love the dual color palette of this building.
Just a guy with a weird antenna-looking thing on his back (360 camera on a stick), a drone, and a big-ass camera shooting photos and video of mundane stuff around town.
Realistically, I don’t have any time to go out and take photographs, record videos, and otherwise just play around with my camera gear, so I have to put effort into making time for those things. This was one of those days.
I woke up on Saturday morning and took my usual glimpse out of our bedroom window to check the condition of the dawn. Was it overcast? Clear? Maybe a blazing sunrise?
That morning it was quite colorful and looked like it might have some potential for nice drone footage.
The sun rises over Caribou, Maine, and a layer of fog hangs low over the Aroostook River.
Getting out there first thing in the morning gave me the momentum I needed to further procrastinate on other house projects that have been awaiting completion, some for years, and spend the rest of the morning going out and getting photos and video footage. The rest of the day would then be spent processing those photos and putting a video together, followed by another full day of putting the finishing touches on that video, posting to social media, then working on this blog article…
You can see how this can be come quite a time-suck, but I think it’s worth it. As Kim likes to tell me, “Does it bring you joy? Then do it.”
I’m pretty much the luckiest guy on the planet. Here are some of the photos I took yesterday.
A shot of downtown Caribou, Maine, looking southeast toward the Aroostook River. This advertisement for Coca-Cola is pretty old, but I’m not sure how old. It was uncovered several years ago when the brick was exposed. It looks like it underwent a few iterations before being completely covered up at some point in the past.I’ve taken several photos of this little statue in the park by Caribou Stream on Main Street, but never from this angle.A small plane happened to fly low directly overhead as I was photographing in the park by Caribou Stream.Looking down the alley in the downtown “mall” in Caribou.Another statue I’ve taken several photos of, the majestic Caribou in the middle of town. Here’s a shot of the Caribou with fall colors in the background.Caribou isn’t exactly a “walkable” city. Cars outnumber pedestrians by quite a large margin. In fact, it’s hard to live or do anything at all in this town without a vehicle, which is a problem for a lot of people who cannot afford a vehicle. And finally, my old stomping grounds. This will forever be known to me as “the old ATX building”. See Pictures from the Past โ ATX Wall Art. A local businessman, Dana Cassidy, purchased the building some time ago and named it “Cassidy Compound.” I’m not sure if he still owns it, but there doesn’t appear to be anything happening in there (much like the rest of town).
